Our trip to Rockland, Maine to see the Farnsworth Museum

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

The ALMS Lime Rock Entry List, not the diasaster that I had originally feared. 9 Prototypes including the return of Van der Steur, 11 GT2 (they added the Panoz lite), 5 challenge cars. Plus Atlantics which is running in the mid teens. Cytosport adds a RS Spyder and of course the Corvettes at Mid Ohio.

July 4th is IRL at the Glen, I wanted to go Saturday only but you have to buy the whole weekend, I may call to see if you can get 1 day general admission at the gate. You can't buy a paddock pass either, which is no fun.

IndyCar is 50/50 Circle/Road-Street next year, meaning 1 oval gone and two road course(that aren't former CC tracks unfortunately) probably Brazil, and Barber. IRL needs to have the double header with ALMS at Road America and Cleveland, Mont Tremblant would be nice too. Maybe FOTA will take those tracks instead.

Paul Tracy on Twitter provides the best in race commentary available. Here are some highlights he posted during the IRL and Sears Point races.

IRL:
If I was dixon I would punch hellio in the face

Sears Point:
I don't know why they consider boris a rc ace :-?

Pat carpentier is like a silent fart , u don't know where he came from but it's in the room :-)

If I was kurt I would punch jimmy j in the face , for that one

Jimmy says he is sorry , kurt should punch him in the throat , then say sorry

Boris again , how does he get a ride

Happy birthday Joel!

They have a short train ride in the yard. Oliver, Cameron and I rode in the engine (EMD switcher) which was super cool. Oliver was in little boy heaven. Cameron enjoyed it too. They both took turns setting the brake when we stopped, and They both blew the horn. The engineer was really nice and happy to show the kids all about driving the train. He was impressed with Oliver's train knowledge. Kate and Elliot rode in the back in the red caboose. The train stopped near the turntable and we all went for a spin. It rained for a bit and we all took cover in a caboose. Overall it was a nice day.

Father's day weekend started out wet at Albany-Saratoga speedway. Paul, Cyndy, Oliver and I went to see the races but gave up after we got drenched. Oliver got a nice new bike helmet courtesy of Martin, Harding and Mazzoti. We watched warm-ups and one Modified heat race before the rain. better luck next time.
Saturday Oliver had his last T-ball game and Cameron had her next to last dance class before the recital. Then We all went to Langan Porsche. Oliver and I went for a test drive in a '95 Porsche Carrera (325hp flat 6, 6 speed manual, 16,000 miles, silver with black leather interior, sunroof, 19" x 11" rear wheels 19" x 8" front). It was better than expected to drive. Completely different driving experience than the EVO.
Sunday we went to the Danbury RR Museum in Danbury, CT. It is and old New Haven railyard that has been converted. It also still has a live Metro-North line going past it. It was a nice place with a bunch of old trains. A few have been fixed up.

Not sure who is doing the poll but . . .the Ford Ranger is a Mazda whatever. Also Suzuki Equator is a Nissan Frontier for less money. I voted for the Nissan Frontier.

The fun lasted right till Saturday morning at about 7:00 am.

Friday night thru Saturday morning We participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. It was at the Valleycat's stadium at Hudson Valley Community College (still known by some as Joe Bruno Stadium). The group was Paul, Cyndy, Noah, Kate, Oliver, Cameron, Elliot, Howie, and Jo. LMP1 #2 Audi Rockenfeller
LMP2 Chris Dyson Lola Mazda
GT1 #4 Oliver Gavin
GT2 Red Risi car Pierre Kaffer, Mika Salo, Jamie Melo

5 diesel bratwursts, 5 diesel frogs and 4 gasoline fish and chips should make for the one of the most competitive LeMans ever. All fourteen cars have the speed to win. Who will finish? I would guess three cars on the lead lap at the end.

We are getting the new water line today. Road is closed.

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

Last week, Rachel and I went out to Marin to see the Tiburon calochortus lily (Calochortus tiburonensis) in bloom.

It only grows on one ridge (anywhere) where there is a certain combination of climate and weird soil. It was discovered and found to be a new species in the 1970s.
Yesterday afternoon Christine and Butterscotch, the cat, saw this young moose in our yard.

Chris
Chris was here saturday night. Kate and I went to Vin Santo for our 11th anniversary. Sunday I made ribs again. No sauce, Price Chopper charcoal is junk. I will stick with Kingsford (good to supprot Marcus Ambrose anyway. They came out very good. The kids really like them.
The work crew is starting to put the new water line down our road. Also the county is going to use some of it's stimulous money to repave our road part of Rosendale and Niksayuna Rd. after the work is done. $2 million dollars.

Paul Tracy Blog

Paul Tracy started blogging in the beginning of May for Racer.com. The result has been pure gold, specifically his pre-Milwaukee road trip with Tommy Kendall.
